The Tri An hydropower plant will receive two extra generators to increase its capacity by 200 megawatts (MW), taking the total capacity to 600 MW by 2025, a representative of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) said at a meeting on July 31.
As the total capital of the expanded Tri An plant project is below VND5 trillion, the Dong Nai government will be entrusted to approve the investment plan, the representative noted at the meeting between EVN and the Dong Nai authorities.
The project, which is located in Vinh Cuu District in Dong Nai Province, needs 130 hectares of land for the construction work, the representative stated, adding that after it is completed, EVN will return 80 hectares of land to the district, the local media reported.
The project is facing obstacles over the use of 23 hectares of land, where 20 hectares are agricultural land and three more hectares are designated for fisheries, according to EVN.
The representative of EVN proposed the province consider and approve the construction and investment plan for the expanded Tri An hydropower plan project as soon as possible and support and create more favorable conditions for the conversion of land use purposes, site clearance, compensation and resettlement.
Tran Van Vinh, vice chairman of Dong Nai Province, said that the project is a key facility for the country, and its expansion is expected to boost the power supply to Dong Nai Province and the national power grid.
Vinh told the relevant departments and agencies and Vinh Cuu District to collaborate with EVN to promptly remove bottlenecks to facilitate the construction of the project.
The Tri An hydropower plant, which currently has four generators with capacity totaling 400 MW, is expected to regulate the water of the Dong Nai River, reduce salinity in the river and contribute power to the national energy grid.
