Vietnam tops ASEAN goods exporters to Canada

Vietnam is taking the lead among ASEAN goods exporters to Canada as bilateral trade between the two countries surged 11.8% to US$928.97 million in the first quarter of the year, according to Statistics Canada.

The statistics have shown that Canada’s exports to Vietnam declined by 38.7% to US$92.9 million compared to corresponding period last year while Canada’s imports from Vietnam increased by 23% to US$836.1 million.

  

Vietnam’s key exports to Canada are machines, electrical and electronic equipment, wood, garment and textile, footwear, fax machines, and printers. Meanwhile, the country mainly imports from Canada fertilizers, soybeans, seafood, machines, equipment, components and fur.

Compared to other ASEAN nations, Vietnam ranks fifth in goods import from Canada but takes the lead in goods export to the North American market.
