February 22: Vietnam Stocks Extend Gain On Improving Sentiment

Vietnamese stocks extended the rally on Monday as investors were more confident to enter the market on valuation, securities companies led.

The VN-Index, the measure of 307 stocks, gained 6.68 points, or 1.21%, to end at 560.71. It rose 1.7% last week.

The market volume was down nearly 20% from a day earlier, totaling 152 million shares and fund certificates worth VND2,651 billion, slightly lower than the previous trading day.

The market breadth was positive on the southern bourse where 155 stocks increased, 72 tumbled and 62 closed unchanged.

The VN30-Index, a free float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange, climbed 6.86 points, or 1.21%, to end at 574.37.

Securities companies advanced across the board. SSI surged on the news that Daiwa Securities Group Inc. planned to raise its holdings the company to 15% from current 10%. Ho Chi Minh City Securities Corporation (HCM) limited up to VND29,300. Agribank Securities (AGR) climbed 3.4% to VND3,000.

Oil and gas companies also advanced at the back of crude price recovery on global markets. PetroVietnam Gas (GAS) rose 1% to VND42,900. PetroVietnam Drilling (PVD) leaped 2.4% to VND25,400.

Among the most active players, Hoang Anh Gia Lai Group (HAG) surged 6% to settle at VND8,800 on a trade of 6.6 million shares on the news that foreign partners are willing to support companies financially to deal with its debts.

FLC Group (FLC), the most active stock on the gauge with a trade of 14.6 million shares, jumped 2.9% to end at VND7,100.

Hoang Huy Investment Services Joint Stock Company (HHS), coming second in market volume with 10 million shares changed hands, soared 6.8% to settle at VND11,000.

Stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange advanced. The HNX-Index, the measure of 380 stocks, gained 0.46 points, or 0.59%, to end at 78.26, the highest close since January 7. The gauge added 2.2% last week.

The traded volume was up 40% from a day earlier, totaling 55 million shares worth VND660 billion, 50% higher than the previous trading date.

The market breadth was positive on the northern exchange. Among index members, 134 stocks rose, 83 tumbled and 55 closed unmoved.

The HNX 30 Index - the tracker of top 30 stocks calculated based on free float adjusted market capitalization - climbed 1.52 points, or 1.1%, to close at 139.62 points.

Securities companies were leaders on the bourse, too. VIX added roughly 10%, VND rose 5.3%, BVS leaped 5% and KLS jumped 4.5%.

Among the most active, Sai Gon Thuong Tin Real Estate Joint Stock Company (SCR), the most active issue on the measure with 5.8 million shares traded, rose 1% to end at VND9,600.

FLC Joint Venture Global Investment Joint Stock Company (KLF) leaped 5.3% to end at VND4,000 on a trade of 2 million shares - the third most traded on the gauge.

VMC among many others surged 10% - the upper daily limit. TV3 was the biggest loser, erasing 10% to close at VND900.
